PLSS
   Primary Life-Support System. This backpack unit is permanently attached to the hard upper torso of the space suits used aboard the Shuttle. The PLSS supplies oxygen for breathing, suit pressurization and ventilation. It also cools and circulates water for the liquid cooling ventilation garment, controls ventilation gas temperature, absorbs carbon dioxide and removes odors from the suit atmosphere.
